Cedar of Lebanon taken from Barnes Concordance

He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon - On the cedars of Lebanon, see the notes at Isa_2:13. The following remarks by Dr. Thomson (“land and the Book,” vol. i. pp. 292, 295), with the accompanying cut, will show the propriety of the image here. “The platform where the cedars stand is more than six thousand feet above the Mediterranean, and around it are gathered the very tallest and grayest heads of Lebanon. The forest is not large - not more than five hundred trees, great and small, grouped irregularly on the sides of shallow ravines, which mark the birthplace of the Khadisha, or Holy River.
“But, though the space covered by them does not exceed half a dozen acres, yet, when fairly within the grove, and beneath the giant arms of those old patriarchs of a hundred generations, there comes a solemn hush upon the soul as if by enchantment. Precisely the same sort of magic spell settles on the spirits, no matter how often you repeat your visits. But it is most impressive in the night. Let us by all means arrange to sleep there. The universal silence is almost painful. The gray old towers of Lebanon, still as a stone, stand all around, holding up the stars of heaven to look at you, and the trees gather like phantoms about you, and wink knowingly, or seem to, and whisper among themselves you know not what. You become suspicious, nervous, until, broad awake, you find that it is nothing but the flickering of your drowsy fire, and the feeble flutter of bats among the boughs of the trees. A night among the cedars is never forgotten; the impressions, electrotyped, are hid away in the inner chamber of the soul, among her choicest treasures, to be visited a thousand times with never-failing delight.
“There is a singular discrepancy in the statements of travelers with regard to the number of trees. Some mention seven, others thirteen - intending, doubtless, only those whose age and size rendered them Biblical, or at least historical. It is not easy, however, to draw any such line of demarcation. There is a complete gradation from small and comparatively young to the very oldest patriarchs of the forest. I counted four hundred and forty-three, great and small, and this cannot be far from the true number. This, however, is not uniform. Some are struck down by lightning, broken by enormous loads of snow, or torn to fragments by tempests. Even the sacrilegious axe is sometimes lifted against them. But, on the other hand, young trees are constantly springing up from the roots of old ones, and from seeds of ripe cones. I have seen these infant cedars in thousands just springing from the soil; but as the grove is wholly unprotected, and greatly frequented both by human beings and animals, they are quickly destroyed. The fact, however, proves that the number might be increased “ad libitum.” Beyond a doubt, the whole of these upper terraces of Lebanon might again be covered with groves of this noble tree, and furnish timber enough not only for Solomon’s Temple and the house of the forest of Lebanon, but for all the houses along this coast. But, unless a wiser and more provident government controls the country, such a result can never be realized, and, indeed, the whole forest will slowly die out under the dominion of the Arab and Turk. Even in that case the tree will not be lost. It has been propagated by the nut or seed in many parks in Europe, and there are more of them within fifty miles of London than on all Lebanon.
“We have seen larger trees every way, and much taller, on the banks of the Ohio, and the loftiest cedar might take shelter under the lowest branches of California’s vegetable glories. Still, they are respectable trees. The girth of the largest is more than forty-one feet; the height of the highest may be one hundred. These largest, however, part into two or three only a few feet from the ground. Their age is very uncertain, nor are they more ready to reveal it than others who have an uneasy consciousness of length of days. Very different estimates have been made. Some of our missionary band, who have experience in such matters, and confidence in the results, have counted the “growths” (as we Western people call the annual concentric circles) for a few inches into the trunk of the oldest cedar, and from such data carry back its birth three thousand five hundred years. It may be so. They are carved full of names and dates, going back several generations, and the growth “since the earliest date” has been almost nothing. At this rate of increase they must have been growing ever since the Flood. But young trees enlarge far faster, so that my confidence in estimates made from such specimens is but small.” The idea in the passage before us is, that the righteous will flourish like the most luxuriant and majestic trees of the forest; they may be compared with the most grand and beautiful objects in nature.

The righteous shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon

How I landed up in this topic (previous post)

It’s interesting to study on the cedar tree. When I looked into the bible and searched on what cedar typifies & what are its uses, I found numerous of them.  But we’ll only be looking at the portion of it..
My dad used to tell me that if I wanted to understand the full essence of a sentence, I would have to look out the meaning of the words. It’s usually something which we take for granted esp more when it’s a simple word like GROW=)

Let’s search deep into this verse yeah…
Grow in my BBC dictionary means:
  1. If something grows, it increase in size, amount or degree.
  2. If a tree or plant grow in that particular place, it is alive there.
  3. When you grow plants, you put them in the ground and look after them as they developed.
  4. If something grows into a particular state, it changes gradually until it is of that state.

The Cedar Tree,
I did a simple search on the characteristic of Cedar trees. And here’s a little of what I got.
The little nation of Lebanon has for its primary insignia on its postage stamp one of the cedars of Lebanon because it is the thing that most typifies that part of the world. Lebanon also means “white snow”. The place is covered with heavy drifts of snow; and when the storm came, it’ll fall upon the cedar tree.It is unlike the trees we see around us but are primarily found on mountain tops.
(When I read this, I finally got the answer as to why eagles were found together with cedar trees in the story in Ezekiel 17. That’s bec eagles give birth and stay on mountain tops =))
Cedar trees can grow up to a height of 120feet and a width of 40feet.
Their growths are usually slow and steady but sure. The age of some of these trees that are still in existence, and some of them that they have been able to measure age-wise go back beyond the birth of Christ,

A description of Cedar from the bible.

Ezekiel 31:3-9(link)

Other uses:
Imported largely by Solomon(1 King10:27), building temples(1Kings5:5,1King 6:9-10)building palaces(2Samuel5:11, 1King7:2,3)making ships(Ezekiel27:5)Solomon’s chariot(song3:9)purifying the leper Lev14:4-7,49-52)…

Psalms 92:12

...he [that is, the Christian man, the righteous man] shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon

The word grow here comes from the Hebrew word sagah which speaks of three fold growth. As we know, there are three ways a tree can grow-downward, upward and sideward.
How and why does the Lord wants us to grow deeply like the cedar tree?

Have you ever seen a row of bedded plants with many flowers. It takes only a few days for you to plant and have an array of flowers, and a few weeks before you’ll be pulling out it’s dry stalks. Was the process fast and evident? How much effort does it take for you to remove them. Faster than you planted it I guess. Why was that so, because it was planted on soft soil and it’s root were shallow or maybe even tinnier than your little finger.

Now, where are the Cedar trees planted? On rocky mountain tops where there was little soil. These plants have to first grow their roots deep into the rocks to secure itself first before it shoots it’s greens. Just imagine a plant wanting to sprout sooner than the roots has reach deep, I believe when the wind comes, more so on mountaintops, it would have been easily be pulled away liken to the parable in Matthew13:6.

You may be looking at yourself now and see no outward change. You’re a cg member last year and still is this year. No one has yet called you to be a leader or to perfom on stage. Your frens are moving fast ahead of you. You dun seem to see any progress just like the tree. Be patient.
How was the Cedar tree growing?
Slowly and steadily but SURE.
It may seem slow, but the Lord is deepening your roots each day for the day that he is setting you up. As Christ dwell in your heart more each day as you study His Word, you are grounding yourself in His love, something which cannot be taken away.(Eph3:17)

And as your roots reach deep enough, you are mature enough to “look higher”. But it’s not going to be easy because the higher you reach, the stronger the wind or challenges are going to come your way. That’s when you start to even reach deeper and learn to bent a little otherwise it’ll break.

How do you grow upwards? You grow in and by grace
2Peter3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ...
It also means that when challenges meet you, his grace is all sufficient to meet your need in that situation. And as you grow higher and stronger, there’ll be stronger winds but his grace will still be there to uphold you.

What does growing outward means?
Ezekiel 17:23
(Darby)  upon the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth branches, and bear fruit, and become a noble cedar; and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

It is liken to being a place of protection and rest for the animals and the birds of the air. Surprisingly, I found out the mention of birds here are actually the sparrows. They are usually small move in a flock, rarely alone. You’ll never find an eagle finding rest in the trees when storms arise, they’ll be out in the storms.

Just like we rest under the shadow of the Almighty, we become like Him each day. We become a place of comfort and rest to those who are weary.
Your friends who are in trouble will come to you when they’re in trouble and find rest being with you.

This is one of my favourite verse I found on cedar tree which sums this up:
Songs1:17 (BBE)  Cedar-trees are the pillars of our house; and our boards are made of fir-trees.

I remember once when Pastor Daniel laid hands on me during ministering time in  Adventure Camp 2, he spoke a few things…but I only remembered two things which he spoke clearly. One of which is,
“You will be a pillar of strength to the ones around you”
Then, I didn’t understand why, how and what it truly means until I study on this today.

As I look at the characteristic of the Cedar tree, it’s majesty, how it grows, the little birds that finds refuge in it in the midst of storm, how it withstand the winds and storms…
I finally I understood what it meant.
Why is it so important to be grounded in the Word, his love & His grace.
The sparrows are the sheep he has given me to tend. We are all shepherd to someone he has place us with. Be the refuge to whom they could come to.

I hope you’re encourage by this “simple” illustration?Lastly, why do you see the storms in your life…without it you’ll never reach deeper. Without first reaching deep, you’ll never grow taller.

Bringing back the meaning to grow…
If something grows into a particular state, it changes gradually until it is of that state.”
I believe the state is when He has perfectly completed the work in you.(Phil1:6 a verse I always whole dear)

Love this:
Psalms 104:16
The Lords trees have plenty of water .
They are the cedar trees of Lebanon,
Which He planted(ICB)

The Eagle & the Tree

This message is birth forth during one of my lowest moments. Today I receive another news that brought more pain in me like never before, but I was greatly comforted when the Lord showed me this analogy that I’m about to share to you.

I dun usually share out the details as to how the Lord leads me into something, but I just felt that this one was different and maybe is a message from the Lord for all of us.
I wrote to show you that Jesus is so real at times that it’s simply hard to doubt he’s not. This entry is purely a journey the Lord has led me into writing the next entry “ the Righteous shall grow like cedars in Lebanon” It would be too long if I would to include it here=)

I love what pearl wrote to me recently, When it is the right season, His revelation will come effortlessly. I have learnt not to strive in trying to understand a word now. Cos Abba will make sure His message will come through to me clearly and I have the peace to receive. Amen!” I really thank God for this dear sister although I do not know her personally, but you have spoke volume into my life this pass few days. I believe it’s never coincidental that the Lord has sent you to comfort me. I’m sure we’ll meet up in church one day=)

About 3weeks ago, I found out something which made me really disheartened. As usual, I would flip open my Bible & randomly read it with unceasing tears in my eyes.Hee~you know when you’re down, you try to grab as much verses as you can=) But this time, the first verse that I open up to was from Isaiah  65:22,
“My people will live a long time as tree live a long time”

The word tree came alive to my spirit. Seconds after that, Shin Ying message me, “…u’re like a tree planted by the water He’ll look after you” she also gave me another verse which Pastor Chin preached in campus the week when I was away with the word tree in it from Jer 17:7.

Following that I took hold of a book by Kenneth Hagin called Soaring like the eagles. In that the Lord inspire in me to stand strong in His Word.

In the same week Pastor Dan mention about tree & eagles in leaders meeting.
Here’s something, which I wrote to one my fren,
“Pastor mention "You're like a tree planted by the rivers of living water" in leaders meeting today. Tree seem to be a word for me now=)Two words that have been alive in my spirit recently were tree and eagle. I was reading a whole book on eagles by Kenneth E. Hagin two days back. And Pastor preached on eagles too in leaders meeting!…”

The following week, I decided to open up a NRSV Bible Shin Ying gave me which I hardly touch.hehe. It was one of her none use bible and she ask me if I wanted it. Of course=)and I toke it to add on to my collection of Bibles at home. Lo and behold, the first page I open up to was a list of parables in the bible. One of which was the Eagles & the tree in Ezekiel 17. I never knew this parable existed. I knew then the Lord has something for me, but I still couldn’t figure it out.

What really got me in finding out more was when I read an excerpt from belovedpearls’s blog, In that dream, I heard someone speaking words of poetry about a tree like a willow tree being planted by the waters”..not only that, she posted with it 2 exact same verses Shin Ying gave me. And she’s not someone from campus who happens to listen to the message.

I was curious then to find out whether willow tree was mentioned in the Bible, and to my surprised it was found in the parable of the Eagle and the tree!

I tried so hard to understand this parable and what the Lord is trying to tell me from this passage but I still couldn’t. I wrote to belovedpearl if she understands and here’s a little of what she wrote which was good and funny too,
“..So got no flow then to understand, today still no flow yet…

I had searched for “willow tree” as it was given to me in that dream a month ago. That’s when I found Ezekiel 17.

I dun understand about the two eagles and how they linked to the Israelites' fate. But I did ask Abba to tell me or any of our pastors so that they can share. When in doubt, ask Abba. =)… Much like Psalm 104:16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the
cedars of Lebanon that he planted….”

I got a shocked of my life when I saw that verse. It was the verse I was looking up in my other site.

It happened this morning, as I was pondering over the verse tree planted by rivers of living water…something inside got me asking. What tree did Jesus meant? He has mention many trees like fig, olives, fur…but what is the tree that He most talk about?

I read Ezekiel 17 again and search thru e-sword to find out that Jesus mention the most on Cedar tree. The word cedar was use many times in many forms, but only one verse I found which the Lord gave a representation of Cedar liken to us in Psalms 92:12
The righteous… shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon…

That’s where the Lord showed me more about the Cedar tree (following entry)

Step out

"...And Jesus said, …Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid(Matt14:27). No wonder Peter wanted to go to Him, water or no water. But he was not fanatical, for he said to the Lord, …bid me come unto the water(v.28). There’s a difference between faith and fanatism. Faith refuses to take one step unless she has the Word of God under her feet, whereas fanatism is ready to be guided by feelings and impressions alone. George Mueller said, “I must have the Word before I move.”

The Lord Jesus said to Peter, “Come”(v29) Blessed Jesus! He always says “Come, “ never ”Go.”…
Then I heard that voice. He said, “Walk on the water. You have been looking for improvements in symptoms, a change in the natural order of things. Stop it. That isn’t it at all. My Word is absolutely true. My healing is supernatural. It doesn’t matter how you feel. Step out.” And I did.

A spiritual song the Lord gave my sister, Amy, has been singing in the air and in my spirit ever since.
Drear was the hour, tossed with the bark,
A spirit seemed coming to them through the dark,
Walking the waters, whoever heard?
Someone cried joyful, “See, ‘this the Lord.”

Refrain

Step out like Peter, walk upon the water,
Step out like Peter, walk upon the sea!Come!
Step out like Peter, walk upon the water,
Step out like Peter. They Lord will walk with thee.

“Lord. If it be Thou, bid me to come,
Walking beside Thee the waves are my home.
Off with my fisher’s coat, now for the sea.
Seeing Thee only I walk with Thee.

Boisterous the billows, Peter looked round;
“Lord, in this tempest I’ll surely be drowned.”
Sinking I perish, “Lord, pull me out!”
Kind was the answer, “Why didst thou doubt?”

Some walk quite boldly with Christ on the land,
Joyful and eager to fill His command;
But should He call them to Him on the sea,
Fainting and fearful their poor hearts would be.

Come and walk with me

Here's something which I saw and hear clearly from the Lord as I was eating yesterday=)I hope you'll see and catch what He showed me. The message can get a little long...but I'll try to just write the ones that speaks to me and leave a few scriptures for you to feed on.
I saw an orchard with just one path ahead of me. I was at the side, standing alongside the trees.
Here's what he say. "Walk before me in this path. I never ask you to turn away from your ways, but just to walk with me through this path. And as you walk with me, the things which seems hard for you to turn away from or that has held you back becomes easy for you to let go"
After that he told me to look up the verses on "walk before" in e-sword. I also look up if there are verses that in Jesus own words ask us to walk or turn away from our ways. And surprisingly i found none!I may be wrong in this.maybe there's a few I know not of. How carefully the Lord chooses His Word. But if ever the word turn away was used, it usually describe the people turning away from His way. But you'll be amazed at the number of times Jesus ask us to walk before Him or in His ways.More than hundred of them. Then as I was finding it, I notice it's only in human words that ask us to walk away from something. But Jesus ask us to follow him and we'll effortlessly walk away from our way.
You and I know that it's hard to throw away a habit or to turn away from our old ways. But Jesus has given us the answer.
He continued on with this illustration. There's many trees in the orchard that you need to mend. Those trees are like your cares and worries. You have so many cares. After you finish mending one, you have the next tree to take care of. Come and walk with me(picture yourself walking towards Jesus in that one path leaving all your cares behind)and smell the flowers. Do you sense your burden liften up?=)
I love the illustration that Jesus use for the word walk in the story of Peter walking on water.
Matthew 14: 29 So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
How careful Jesus chooses his words. How did Peter walk above the winds and storms? He literally walk and set his sight to go to Jesus.
The first time Jesus mention"walk before me" in the Bible is found in Gen 17:1, when He was speaking to Abraham about living a holy life.
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.
Here are a few of my favourite verses on walk:
Psalms 116
8 For You have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
9I will walk before the LORD
In the land of the living.
Genesis 24: 40 But he said to me, "The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father's house.
Some nice verses to ponder on=)
Gen 13:17, Eph 5:15, Ps 86:11, 89:15, 116:9, 119:1,3, Hab 3:19, isaiah 35:9, Jeremiah 7:23

When you pray for your friends, you receive a double portion

As I was walking home yesterday, I pondered over a verse I read in the morning.
"After Job has prayed for his friends, God gave him success again. God gave Job twice as much as he had owned before." Job42:10
I never really saw that before. It was so simple and direct but I knew not of.
Can I be honest with you. It wasn't easy for me at first to start offering prayers there and then for my frens. Not that I didn't want God to bless them but it just wasn't something I do constantly. I realise then how little I did actually pray for my friends. The only times I remember praying for them is at the moment when they requested for it and only when I remember.
I then said a short prayer for my friends in HM camp, and my parents. It didn't come out naturally. But I realised something amazing as I toke hold of this. As I began to pray more, it became easier. I can sense His rivers of living water flowing out of me. I think less of myself. I look away from my own worries. It became something supernatural.
Ask yourself this question today. How often do you pray for your friends. You'll be amazed at the answer. Something so powerful and simple but yet we neglect it in our daily walk.
I was so excited about this revelation that I msg it to one of my Mighty Man in DARE..."I found something interesting today.after Job prayed for his frens, God gave him success!job42:10"
It came to me as a double confirmation when I saw it in the church Daily Devotion today! I almost fainted. Hee~I've had several encounter like this but to me this one was very different. Of all things on Job??It's really from the Lord to you guys=)
Even when you have nothing to give but prayers, your prayers will not return to you void. God can answer them exceedingly above what you have asked. When Job lost everything that he possessed, he prayed for his friends, and the Lord not only restored his losses, but “gave Job twice as much as he had before”. Sanctification

As I was pondering upon the verse Pastor Joshua gave last week on sanctification, I grab a book next to me that belongs to my landlord written by Oswald Chambers. Amazingly, the first two pages that I open up to was on sanctification! Enjoy reading it.
Sanctification
"But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us...sanctification..."(1 Corinthians 1:30)
The Life Side. The mystery of sanctification is that the perfect qualities of Jesus Christ are imparted as a gift to me, not gradually, but instantly once I enter by faith into the realization that He "became for [me]...sanctification..." Sanctification means nothing less than holiness of Jesus becoming mine and being exhibited in my life.
The most wonderful secret of living a holy life does not lie in imitating Jesus, but in letting the perfect qualities of Jesus exhibit themselves in my human flesh. Sanctification is "Christ in you..." (Colossions 1:27) It is His wonderful life that is imparted to me in sanctification-imparted by faith as a sovereign gift of God's grace. Am I willing for God to make Sanctification as real in me as it is in His Word?
Sanctification ,means the impartation of the holy qualities of Jesus Christ to me. It is the gift of His patience, love, holiness, faith, purity, and godliness that is exhibited in and through every sanctified soul. Sanctification is not drawing from Jesus the power to be holy-it is drawing from Jesus the very holiness that was exhibited in Him, and that He now exhibits in me. Sanctification is an impartation, not an imitation. Imitation is something altogether different. The perfection of everything is in Jesus Christ, and the mystery of sanctification is that all the perfect qualities of Jesus are at my disposal. Consequently, I slowly but surely begin to live a life of inexpressible order, soundness, and holiness- "...kept by the power of God..." (1 Peter 1:5)
(My Utmost For His Highest, Daily Devotion(July 23) by Oswald Chambers)

Walk before me and be made holy

Pastor Joshua preached an awesome sermon on sanctification and holiness last Sunday. I'm sure you guys have been blessed by it. I remember asking my youths before third service what was the sermon about, they told me it was on holiness and sanctification. The amazing thing was they all said it was very good and started preaching to me. I thought the subject was rather deep when I first heard it.hehe. There and then, it dawn on me that I actually knew very little about what sanctification was all about only until Pastor brought the subject on. Take for example a verse that's been so commonly use from 1Corinthians 1:30,
"But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption."
I've quoted this verse several times claiming Christ my wisdom, my righteousness and redemption...not realising much on Sanctification even when I mention it. I dunno about you, but I came home pondering this verse that Pastor gave:
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
To me that's a really powerful statement. We are made holy through the holiness of Christ simply by following the truth. Jesus says He is the way, the truth and the life! How do you follow, you walk in it.
Abraham was called to leave his own country (separation) and to follow God wherever He might lead. Pastor Joshua also refer sanctification to the state or process of being set apart or made holy.
I love a verse which I read recently from Gen 17:1, When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the Almighty God; walk and live habitually before me and be perfect.
How did God ask Abram to live a holy life, God told him to walk before Him...
How do you walk in the will of God? Is when you allow Jesus to sanctify you with His Words of love. Then you are walking in His holiness, His will (1 Thes 4:3 For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification..., Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,)
Haha~this message is really from the Lord. My initial plan was to type out on what sanctification means from a devotion book I happen to stumble upon in my house that belongs to my landlord. I just knew that the word sanctify and the verse Gen 17:1 has been boiling in me but I didnt know how to relate it only until I started typing it down here=)God speaks "in" time. If you're wondering how you're going to deliver a speech, He will give you the right words in that moment, amen?
Grace IS with us!=D

(happen to chance upon this picture in the net, a lovely picture to remind us that we are not alone in this journey of life but Jesus-our Daddy is holding our hands walking this journey with us!=))

Do not despise your small beginnings!

Another interesting discussion from Sean's blog. Good things are meant to be shared=D
Heard Something shared over Teh Tarik tonight that i felt was really meaningful, and a good reminder as well... =)

Will paraphrase what was said:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We all know David was used by God Mightily; David slew lions, bears, wild beasts before he slew Goliath. David was anointed by God as King over Israel, but he served and behaved wisely under king Saul, and was victorious in Battles, David Eventually became the greatest King Israel had.

We know that David did MANY things for God... BUT:

What if David died before he became King? What if David had died as a young shepherd boy defending sheep from the Lion?

Would he then receive a lesser portion in heaven before God? Because David didn't manage to do all that he was destined to?

No. I believe that David would still receive the same Great Reward from God, It would not change, Because David was Faithful in whatever God had for him to do at whichever Juncture in his life regardless. "

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David was Faithful. To do whatever God had for him, at whichever part of his life.

That spoke volumes to me, Because i realise that no matter how great a destiny a person can have, he'll never reach there by simply pining for it, or waiting for it, or getting frustrated about it, or by trying to reach it, or by manipulating situations to get to it, or by overstepping his season and etc, etc... he arrives at his destiny by being Faithful to what God has for him in the present. In doing that he honours God, he honours what God has placed in his life by doing what ever God has for him to do at whatever given moment in time.

And this is wonderful: We know that we CAN do whatever God has for us to do in the present moment because the GRACE to do them has already been supplied to us by God. Because God has a Destiny for us, He annoints those steps He plans for us to take in order to reach it.

Which means whatever you have now today in your life to do is the result of a divine appointment by God for the great plans He has for Your life! Might be even that whatever you're doing now can seem to you to be far away from that dream in your heart.

In reply : Wow. That's amazing. I was sharing with my youths or rather they were sharing with me the same thing while we were on our way to station! I was asking Brendon, one of the Mighty Men In DARE and Angus what does it mean to arise to a higher level.
Angus said he read on Arise just the day before. At first we thought he was kidding. He then quoted to me 2 Samuel 23:1 and started preaching to me instead.Hee~We were amazed=)but later on Brendon sum up what Angus and I shared=)
And it's a passage from David too.
1 Now these are the last words of David.
Thus says David the son of Jesse;
Thus says the man raised up on high,
The anointed of the God of Jacob,...

He told me that God will first raised us up first. For example, He'll not give you responsibility that you cannot handle and when you take up an area which is not yours, you'll find a lot of opposition or no favor in that area. But when he has raised you, He'll then anoint you for the position he has called you to with favor.
I then told him about what I wrote in my blog previously. To sum it, you arise to a higher level when you do it for the glory of God in that area. A spirit of excellence then will arise in you. And that's how you arise to a higher level.
Brendon sum it by saying, just like if he is called to be a MM now, he will do it with excellence in the area he has been called to and God will raise him up.
(Just a short summary of what was shared in our conversation. Brendon actually did shared a lot more!hehe~Wish I had a recorder then=))
I love spending time with my youths. I was sharing with Yi Xin, one of the Youth Leaders yesterday that I enjoy listening to what my youths have, the revelation they receive...moreso the quiet ones at times. Cause you'll be amazed at how they speak to you and help you learn too=)Listen closely to them the next time when you have an opportunity to.God speaks through them too=D
Do not despise the small beginnings you see in yourself at times, because God uses the weak things of the world to confound the mighty amen!
Like what Pastor Daniel said, there is a seed of greatness in each of us waiting to be manifested. One day, it'll be a huge tree with deep roots standing firm!

Be Fruitful

John 15
v1.I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser. v2.Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away(trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit.
v8.When you bear(produce)much fruit, My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.

Matthew 21
v18. In the early dawn the next morning, as He was coming back to the city, He was hungry. v19 And as He saw one single leafy fig tree above the roadside, He went to it but He found nothing but leaves on it [seeing that in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. And He said to it, Never again shall fruit grow on you! ANd the fig tree withered up at once.
Ever read, see or hear a verse for many times that it becomes a cliche to you. This is one which I read or hear it preached many times as seeing ourselves as the branch and Jesus our Vine. And If we abide in Him we will bear much fruit.

Today as I was reading it, He illustrated to me the similirality in this two verses in a different way in relation to ministry.

We see in John 15 v2 that says, He cuts(trims, take away) the branch that does not bear fruit. .In the Amplified version it not only says the ones that does not bear but the ones that stop bearing.
It shows that this branch has been bearing fruit but has stop!

Is also interesting to note that in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves. I never knew that before=)

We see in Jesus "vocabulary" the similarity between this two is that He takes away the branch that does not bear fruit.
Have you ever wonder or ask yourself this question, Why did Jesus cut it off, He could have just left it by itself...hmm.So that it becomes it's fullest?

Which are the branches that are allowed to stay. The ones that continue to bear fruit. And what happen to those that stay, He cleanses and repeatedly prunes them so that it becomes more and richer with more excellent fruit.

Here's what he showed me in relation to ministry. The ministry are the branches. You are the tree. You can be in the ministry for being just there, and you find no life in it. You just don't seem to see much fruit in it. You pray harder for the anointing and you wonder why it's still so dry. Go to the Vine. He promise to everyone who remains in Him bears much fruit. Let Him sprout a new branch in you, to the ministry that will see much fruit.

Another group would be those who are asked to moved to another ministry. Or maybe suddenly the door is close for that particular ministry. Or maybe God is asking you to move on to another ministry.
We see previously that the branches that He cuts off were not only that has no fruit but also the ones that has stop bearing. Your ministry that you were there for that season has bear it's fruit before but now you don't see it's fruit. Go in faith to the one you feel He is calling you to.

And to those who have move into a new ministry that you feel God has called you to, but at times you still doubt because you see corrections being made on you, frusfration because you do not see what God has told you...but simply hearing Him telling you to wait...

Be patient! The Lord is continually pruning you to become the excellent servant of God who manifest the glory of God!
Do not give up or doubt if you are in the ministry God has called you to when things seems hard. He sometines uses situation or people as our sandpaper to shape us.
He is setting you up to be excellent in the area He has called you.

Start or go into the ministry He has called you to. He will be the one helping you on to bear much fruits!

Grace IS with us!=D

I Can Only Imagine

This is one of the most amazing songs. Everytime this song is being played, it stirs my heart to the time I had my first love with Jesus. He knows how to make each of us feel special. Let the anointing in this songs, the words of love melt away all your pains and fears...let those tears fall..let our Lover embrace you with His love...
"I Can Only Imagine" Mercy Me
by Linda Owen

I can only imagine
what it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine

MercyMe had been a rock band for eight years when its infectious ode to heaven, "I Can Only Imagine," began saturating Christian radio. After spending weeks at number one on the charts, it garnered Dove awards for both "Pop Song" and "Song of the Year," as well as a "Songwriter of the Year" accolade for lead singer Bart Millard. Almost immediately, the group's 2001 debut album, Almost There, was certified gold, and thousands of churches were using "I Can Only Imagine" in worship.

The Dallas-based band which also includes lead guitarist Mike Scheuchzer, drummer Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran, and keyboardist Jim Bryson knew their first hit was something special, but they never "imagined" it impacting people the way it has.

Millard hopes both listeners and worshipers recognize that, "The song is not about crossing our fingers and hoping that God is out there somewhere, but it's about resting easier at night knowing that there is one true, living God who is crazy in love with us so much so that he desires us to spend eternity with him."

Millard's lyrics grew out of a period of tremendous personal pain. In 1991, his father died after a long battle with cancer. When people told him that his dad would choose heaven over coming back, the 18-year-old began thinking about what his dad was experiencing in heaven. After that, he found himself repeating the phrase "I can only imagine." He began writing it on napkins, paper bags, and anything he could find. The phrase resonated in his heart and gave him the strength and hope he needed to move on.

Somehow, wondering about that awesome moment when he too would lay eyes on the Lord helped dull the pain of losing his father. This isn't a permanent separation, he told himself. One day we'll be enjoying God's presence together.

Years later, in 1999, when MercyMe was writing songs for its freshman project, Millard stumbled across that simple phrase "I can only imagine in an old notebook. About ten minutes later, the song was written.

"People say it's amazing that it was written in ten minutes, when really it had been on my heart for almost ten years," Millard says. In fact, not many days go by that he still doesn't ask himself those questions that form the chorus of his song:

Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still? Will I stand in your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?

"I have faith that Christ is real," Millard adds. "Therefore, I ask him questions."

Questions for which every believer will one day receive the answers.

The Return of the Prodigal Son

In my previous post, I touched on coming up to a higher level; To Arise to the call that God had called you to and on Daddy God.  During today's sermon, he showed me how this two comes into play in our walk with him. Something really simple and beautiful. Let's look at the story of the prodigal son. Here's a son who has squandered of all his father's inheritance now coming back to his father hoping he could hire him as one of his servants. These were the thoughts he had before he came home,
Luke 15:18(NKJV) I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
v19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
v20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
(CEV)v20 The younger son got up & started back to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt sorry for him. He ran to his son and hugged and kissed him.
What were the thoughts he had to qualify himself to become one of his father's servant? Words of confession, probably of self pity too. He looked at how bad he has been . He lowered himself/ he saw himself as a servant.
Let's look at the actual scene. His father came embracing him, hugging and kissing him.Did he manage to say all that he wanted to?
Look at verse 18 & 20. Both has the word arise in it. You can arise to an old way of self-condemnation, self-pity & a continuous cycle of confession of your sins. When you do that, you are seeing yourself as a hired servant and living the lowly life.
But when you arise knowing how much Daddy God loves you, he not only embraces you with his kisses...look at what the next verse says,
v22.But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet:v23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill [it]; and let us eat, and be merry:v24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
You receive his best blessing. You were once dead in your old ways but now you're a new creation!Amen.
Arise(Stand up)my child=) It's not seeing how unqualified you are that qualifies you for his blessing but simply knowing Daddy's love for you!
Take the first step of faith to Stand Up and walk away from the circumstances that has held you back from His unfailing love, the rest belongs to Him. He will cloth you and take care of the you! He says to you,
"I love you my child, come home to me"

What it means to Arise?I luv this=)

It's really amazing. I was looking for a picture that could fit in to my previous post, "Arise! to the call that God has called you to" and this was the first webpage I happened to stumble upon. It's lovely. I luv it very much. Even if it's long, if it's good, it wont take you long yeah?=)It seems like God is calling our church to Arise to our call for this season!
What is ARISE?  Well, it is more than a word - it is a Word that was spoken by God over our Student Ministry at TCAT!  The word itself has so many meanings.  In fact, when we received this word from the Lord we set out to find out exactly what it meant.  We learned that the word “arise” was used over 142 times by various authors in almost every book of the bible.  The original Greek word for “arise” is EGEIRO.  That word is where we found what we were searching for- Our Calling!

EGEIRO is a verb used in multiple forms with various definitions.  First of all, it means to “stand up” or to leave a state of inaction for a life of action.  This verb is used in Matthew 8:14-15, “When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her.  Then she arose and began to serve Him.”  This parallel is obvious.  God is calling us to a state of action.  He is telling us specifically to quit worrying about what other’s think, or about ourselves for that matter and really begin to focus on His plans.  When I was 18 years old the Lord called me.  I was afflicted by sins of the worst nature, but when he touched me I was healed, and after a time, He called to me with a message that said, “It is time, ARISE!”  After that moment, my life has never been the same!

The next meaning that we are given of this “EGEIRO” word is “to arouse from sleep, to awake.”  I know that no one likes to wake up in the morning.  The truth is that most people would sleep to lunch if they could.  In high school, I used to have a very interesting morning schedule.  My brother and I grew up with this very combative nature towards each other, and it showed each morning.  The day he bought a shock collar for his dog was a very bad day for the both of us.  It became an instrument of awakening…Imagine the sensation of your leg jolting upward due to electric shock as you're welcomed to a new day!  Waking up is not easy.  Now, to answer the call to “ARISE” in the sense of this word is taken the exact same way for us.  So many of us are snuggled into the warm fuzzy blankets of our comfortable lifestyle.  We don’t want to be aroused into action, but that is EXACTLY what God is speaking over us!  He wants for us as a ministry to leave our comfortable lazy lifestyles and seek to serve Him each day.  Almost daily, the Lord speaks this message to me: WAKE UP BRIAN, LEAVE YOUR SLUMBER! THE NIGHT IS GONE, THE DAY IS COME! ARISE!  We, as a ministry will answer this call!

“Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?”  “Who may stand in His Holy Place?”  The truth is that none of us, not one, is righteous enough to ascend to God’s Holy place.  Not on our own anyway.  That is why this God-breathed name is such a high calling.  It is used literally to call us forth from the world to ARISE into the place where God dwells.  Do you want to get to the place where God is?  I mean REALLY want to see Him?  How badly do you crave Him?  In Rev. 5, John, the author, said that he saw 7 scrolls that held the secrets of God, and there was an angel there proclaiming “Who is worthy to break the seven seals and open the scrolls?”  John wept and wept because there was no one worthy!  You see, he couldn’t understand God on a new level and it absolutely broke his heart.    He has made us righteous, but holiness is our choice!  Mother Teresa says of Holiness, “it is nothing else but a resolution made, the heroic act of a soul that surrenders to God.”  It is the conscious choice to ARISE above the world, to leave it far behind.  I remember this summer climbing Mount Shasta in California.  We camped at 10,000 feet in the clouds.  During the night a storm rocked the sides of our tent and blew the walls against our face.  We slept about 2.5 hours in thin air.  It was white-out conditions and we were low on water.  As we plunged our bodies up the mountain, we could focus only on one thing, the summit!  I had to make a conscious decision each step of the way just to keep from turning back.  I would count out ten grueling steps, then stop and breathe until I couldn’t feel my pulse pounding against my temples any longer.  At one point, I literally fell asleep on my feet for about 45 seconds and had a dream about being in the Chic-Fil-A drive-thru on a warm sunny day.  Then, my friends, Jim and Harris, lifted me by my armpits and helped me start back up the mountain.  We fought some of the worst mountain conditions possible just to reach the summit, and we made it together.  Do you see it?  We answered the mountain's call to ARISE, to ASCEND!  It took everything we had, but turning back was no longer an option for us.  Answering God’s call to us IS a HEROIC ACT OF THE SOUL!   I am answering it with all of my heart, and I pray that I will be followed closely by hundreds of students from Tuscaloosa!

The last meaning of the word EGEIRO that defines our ministry is “To ARISE from DEATH to LIFE.”  This is the word that was used all through the Scriptures when Christ raised the DEAD, “EGEIRO!”  Jesus called them forth, just as He is calling us forth!  For those who don’t yet know Jesus, He is calling and He alone has the power to set you free and give you life!  You have to begin by answering that call.  Just like when Jesus called Lazurus from the grave…Lazarus could have heard Jesus, and thought to Himself, “Well, I kind of like it in here.  It’s comfortable- and besides, my grave-clothes don’t stink TOO bad.  No thanks Jesus, I think I’ll just stay in here and rot for a while…”  But, he didn’t do that.  Instead, He AROSE and came forth into new life, and Jesus told him to take off his grave-clothes and put on a new robe!  I have found that I sometimes just want to wallow around in my old rotting stinking life, instead of just simply putting on the new robe, and ARISING!  I have to consciously and with much effort peel away the old shabby wreckage from a life without God and robe myself anew with the cleanliness and holiness that Christ bought for us on that tree!

Now, this whole “Arise” thing sounds wonderful and all, but how will we actually answer this Call.  Well, that is where our Lifegroups come in to play.  Each member of our student body has the opportunity to plug in to a small group led by a college student.  These groups meet together, study together, pray together, play together, and most importantly, serve together!  Our leaders are designing ample opportunities to serve (which is what Christ commanded in the Great Commission…Matt. 28:18)  They will answer the call to “go” by serving in elderly homes, soup kitchens, underprivileged medical clinics, and alongside of hurricane victims!  When we take the focus off of ourselves and began to serve “the least among us,” we will truly begin to see the heart of Christ.  We will ARISE!

Arise!! To the call that God has called you to!

Shin Ying asked me yesterday, "What does it mean to Arise?" I asked the Lord this morning. And this is what He told me. So this is specially for you=)He really loves you!
This was what Rev Col Stringer preached to us yesterday. Calling the church to Arise to a higher level of spiritual realm. He emphasize too that Arise is also associated with the glory of God(Ezekiel 3:22-23).
I asked myself this question too while he was preaching. How to arise? What do I have to do?Then it becomes of works.Hee~I wanted very much to know it as this was something the Lord has been speaking to me and many others I think...to come up to a higher level.
And the Lord really did answered me. Read along with me, and I really hope you catch it!For it is so powerful=)
"Let's take a look at the life of Joseph. He went from being the favorite in his father's house, pampered on every side, to being slave in a foreigner's house. You don't think he rose to the position of overseeing Potiphar’s house in a day, do you?Absolutely not! Israelites were like dogs in the eyes of the Egyptians, who fancied themselves far more sophisticated and advanced than any other society in the earth. No, Joseph started with the most menial of tasks. He applied himself to these drudgeries, performing them with a spirit of excellence, to the glory of God, and God honored him by causing everything he touched to prosper. So of course Joseph got promoted.
You may know the rest of the story. Potiphar’s wife took a liking to him, and when he refused to respond to her advances, she accused him of rape and had him thrown into jail. But even there he decided to be the best convict that he could be. Again God honored him, and Joseph was promoted.
Joseph set his sights on maintaining a godly attitude and being an excellent servant, though surely he must have chafed under his seeming reversal of fortune. He decided to learn the necessary lessons and come out the victor. He put his hand to the grindstone and used what he had—his ability to serve—where he was. He flourished in the midst of his trial and, by God’s grace, made something out of the lot that has been given him. And because of Joseph’s obedient and willing attitude, God blessed him. He himself proclaimed, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

Deaconess Karen preached in DARE last Saturday on the story of David and Goliath. How did David a shepherd boy killed a man who is many times his size. Here are some of the things she said,
Use what you got in your hands…every little small things. See God in every small thing=>setting you up for Goliath…As you study, a spirit of excellence will arise in you…Was David being a Shepherd boy exciting? “

Both Joseph and David did the best what they knew to do. Were their task interesting?I doubt so.Were they doing the same thing everyday?Just imagine for yourself what would a shepherd boy be doing daily, a servant, a convict...You will be grateful for where you are now, wont you?=)

Someone wrote this to me the other day,
I was watching a cartoon, and one of the characters said, 'All my life I had been searching for the Best Place - a place where we would be accepted, where we could rest. But as I searched I began to realise that maybe there is no Best Place for me to find. I have to create the Best Place for myself. Now I know that the Best Place is not a place, but it is in my heart.'

Here’s what the Lord told me.
When you do something with a consciousness of doing it to the glory of the Lord, a spirit of excellence will arise in you. And this is how you arise to a higher level.

It does not have to be big projects but just simple things that are before you now. When Joseph was a servant, he did everything to the glory of the Lord a servant would do. He would brewed the coffee to it's best, tidied the king's chamber without any spot...whatever it is, we know that he did it well because he was term an excellent servant.

Oh the Lord just told me this. Many a times we want to be excellent in our studies, to be the best. But you know, when you live a God-conscious life, doing it to the glory of the Lord and not man, a spirit of excellence will arise in you. Do you see it?It’s a spirit. It comes on you.

Even when Joseph was in the jail, he became the best convict! What happens after that?He got promoted! He went up to a higher level. He “ARISE”!

When you help your mum to wash the plates, your boss to do the unnecessary work, dun grumble..hehe. do it happily for the Lord. At when you catch that spirit, promotion is near you!

Arise, God’s beloved to the call he has called you to!=)Live a life that glorifies Him.
